About eighty years have passed since the foundation of Tokyo Steel Co., Ltd. During that time, we have devoted ourselves to being of service to the world by engaging in the steel-making business. As a steel maker, we have learned, the importance of materials research through our experience with the raw materials of steel.
Research and development of new materials are indispensable to advancements in science and technology. In his wish to contribute to this purpose, the late Taro Iketani, founder of Tokyo Steel Co., Ltd., sponsored the establishment of Iketani Science and Technology Foundation. The Foundation has had the good fortune to be able to continue extending financial assistance to a large number of researchers up to the present, thanks to your understanding, guidance and cooperation. The Foundation successfully brought to conclusion a total of 3,532 project grants at a value of ¥4,069,000,000 during a period of 34 years up to 2022.
As stated in the Foundation’s charter, Japan’s various industries achieved rapid advancement, and the nation developed into one of the world’s leading economic powers. Now that Japan has become a world leader in science and technology, demands are being made for even greater contributions to benefit the international community and mankind. On the other hand, the environment surrounding Japan has become increasingly severe, with developments such as intensified international competition and restrictions on energy and various other resources. To cope with these problems, higher levels of research and development in science and technology are strongly desired. The Foundation’s objectives and mission are consequently to provide grants and encourage research in advanced materials, which can form the basis for such higher level research and development as a means of contributing to advancements in science and technology as well as to social and economic development.
We believe we can accomplish this mission if you continue to provide your support and assistance. We therefore ask that you continue to extend your assistance and make full use of the Foundation’s grant programs in the future as well.
